Allegheny College students get involved - Part 2
Hi,
My name is Mary Ellen Castillo, I hail from a small town, Weston, Connecticut. This is my first year at Allegheny College; I will be studying history and political science. History teachers have always inspired me to seek knowledge and formulate my own opinions. It is because of their influence that I hope to become a teacher. As a teacher I will have the opportunity to also educate and inspire. From studying history I have discovered that one individual can have the opportunity to change the world. With this ideal I mind, I realized that the congressional election could have a significant impact on the world. I joined the college democrats and learned about Kathy Dalhkemper whom I meet at a rally. I agree with her policies and have become a supporter. The other morning I went canvassing with Elise. To me the most meaningful experience was talking to a lady who has been politically active since the days of Roosevelt. This is crucial for me because our nation is founded on ideals political activism. I hope that with my support for Kathy I can educate people, just as this woman has been educated.
